ISA Student Advisory Committee Meets Dan Marino

May 2012

The student advisory committee of the ISA timed their first organized outing  to coincide with a talk Mr. Marino was giving about his new vitamin supplement at a local Walgreens. They approached Mr. Marino to help gain support for their upcoming project for the International Society for Autism; a golf tournament to raise money for research and scholarships.The meeting was a great experience for the students and we look forward to participating in the community events that The Dan Marino Foundation supports throughout the year.

Picture yourself sitting on South Beach, with an ocean view, listening to original live music by the Joshua Steadman Band, with a cocktail in your hand as hors d’oeuvres are passed, while watching a “beach chic” fashion show.

All this will be followed by a “not so ordinary” silent auction,
so be sure to bring your credit card!

Silent Victims of Crime (SVC) and the International Society for Autism (ISA) collaborate on their 1st annual event, to benefit the Youth Leadership Program. This initiative allows our children to focus on higher education, conscious decision-making, and giving back to society in a supportive and positive environment.

This three day long beach party was a blast to visit. There were vendors, surfboards to use, trainings, music, and delicious food.

Joe, Ryan, and everyone else had an amazing time! Next year we hope to take a bigger part in the event by having our own booth (especially after the experience we just gained at the Relay for Life).

One brilliant attempt to address this is the “Asperger’s ID Card”, created by the folks at Aspergers Association of New England.

Similar to cards that warn emergency personnel of allergies, medications, and other health concerns, the Asperger’s ID Card is designed to explain tofirst responders how to safely work with an Asperger’s Individual in a high stress situation.

is the theme of Deerfield Beach’s 2013 Annual Gala, and the ISA could not think of a better theme to mark this, our inaugural benefit event. Situated in Deerfield Beach, the students in the ISA program are active members of their community through their volunteering and outreach.  We could not be making the difference we are without the support our community gives. We hope that you will be able to attend this exciting event, a portion of the proceeds will be going directly to the ISA.

The ISA was overjoyed to participate in a recent “Karaoke Night!” at the Flashback Diner . The event was put on by the Fort Lauderdale Asperger’s Syndrome Meetup Group  as well as the non-for-profit Artists With Autism. Students from both New Directions and the ISA were happy to attend the event. We sang, we laughed, a great time was had by all. Props to all of the singers brave enough to get on stage!
